Digital Video Recorder

Intro

It's been a plan of mine to build a digital nexus / Digital Video Recorder (DVR) for a long while now. Since I first had the aim of building a DVR system, these projects have been brought from the realms of geek cliché into the mainstream with products such as TiVo and Sky+. Now with a few well matured open source and commercial DVR software packages available, I'd really have to be looking for excuses not to go ahead and build myself a DVR.

Goal

The intention of this project is to create an always-on server that is capable of recording and serving digital media, primarily from digital TV. The server may also fill other lesser rolls in the house, such as intranet web server.
